UAE cancels ban on imported crops from Egypt

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday cancelled the ban that was imposed on crops imported from Egypt, after holding meetings with a delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture in the UAE.

Dr Abed el-Moneam el-Banna, Minister of Agriculture, stated on Monday that the Egyptian delegation met on Thursday with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Director of the Health and Animal Development Department, Director of the National Laboratories Department and the commercial counselor in the Commercial Office in Abu Dhabi.

UAE officials asked the Egyptian delegation to attach lists containing the names of crops produced by the organic farming system and by the appropriate agricultural practices to make it easy for UAE bodies to take samples of pesticide for analysis before the crops are collected and during their packaging.

Banna added that the Egyptian delegation agreed with officials to abolish an agricultural quarantine in Egypt and for the UAE to issue a quick warning on spoiled shipments.

Banna clarified that the Egyptian delegation and Emirati officials are considering imposing the penalty of suspending exporters dealing who send shipments in contravention of the specifications and procedures that are agreed to with Emirate importers.
