
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Tuesday hailed the historical ties between Egypt and Syria.
During an interview with Al-Arabiya channel, on the sidelines of the emergency Arab summit in Cairo, Sharaa said that, “Egypt and the Levant are two wings of one bird. This is the natural state throughout history.”
Sharaa added: “Our relationship with the Arabs in general was built before the Arab summit,” noting that many Arab leaders visited Damascus under the new administration.
“Syria is in its natural place, and Syria is part of the Arab embrace,” he said.
Regarding Israel’s continued assault on Syrian territory since the Assad regime fell in December, Sharaa said that Israel, “Came to exploit the collapse of the regime, but with expansionist intentions.. As for how we will respond, this is what we should not say.”
Meeting President Sisi
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday met with President Sharaa on the sidelines of the extraordinary Arab summit held in the New Administrative Capital.
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency said that Sisi stressed Egypt’s desire to support the Syrian people and achieve their aspirations towards stability and development.
Sisi noted the importance of launching a comprehensive political process that includes all components of the Syrian people, with no exception.
The Egyptian President also asserted Egypt’s eagerness for Syrian to maintain its unity and integrity, and rejected any acts of aggression on its territory.
The Syrian President on his end spoke of his eagerness to start a new chapter of close ties with the Arab world, especially Egypt, which he desired to closely work together with to achieve all joint interests.
Sharaa appreciated Egypt’s efforts in supporting the unity and territorial integrity of Arab countries and restoring regional stability.
