Giza Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced a man and his brother to prison for resisting authorities and assaulting a policeman in May. The first suspect was given a sentence of five years imprisonment and the second three.
According to investigations, the policeman shot the first suspect in the stomach in self-defense.
The policeman had stopped the man, asking him to show him his identity card and furnish papers proving his ownership of the tok-tok he was driving. The man failed to present ownership documents and so the policeman confiscated the tok-tok., the investigations said.
Eyewitnesses said the man's brother summoned dozens to the scene and took back the tok-tok.
Meanwhile, the policeman said the tok-tok driver assaulted him with a machete, prompting him to fire. The policeman also said that before shooting the man, he warned the crowds by firing into the air.
