Two elements of armed groups were killed by the second field army in Arish, security source said, after throwing two hand grenades on the troops.
A wireless device and gun that belonged to a policeman that they murdered earlier were found in their possession, the source added.
Another 12 suspects were arrested in the incident.
Armed forces burnt and destroyed seven motorbikes without metal plates, two trucks and 10 shanty houses, all reportedly belonging to the armed groups in the Sheikh Zowayyed and Rafah area.
In related news, two Sinai bedouins were killed by armed groups. Four others were earlier killed, making the total number of citizens killed by armed groups reaches six in 48 hours.
Many North Sinai residents have criticized the army’s tactics of burning houses, calling it a “scorched earth” policy. Though the army says attacks are precise as the houses are harboring or aiding terrorist groups, many local residents deny it and say the army is merely burning whole villages in retribution.
