Two Egyptian officers killed in helicopter crash during training

The Egyptian Army announced on Tuesday that two Egyptian military officers lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash in the Suez Governorate, eastern Egypt. The crash was attributed to a mechanical failure.

In a statement, Colonel Gharib Abdel-Hafiz, the spokesperson for the Egyptian Armed Forces, said, ‘As part of the implementation of an air force training activity today, Tuesday… a helicopter crashed in the Shaluf area during training due to a technical malfunction, resulting in the martyrdom of two officers.’

The spokesperson indicated that ‘the necessary measures are being taken by the competent authorities.’

In recent years, there have been repeated incidents. On February 25, 2023, an Egyptian military training aircraft crashed, but its pilot survived without injuries, according to the CNN Arabic website.

A similar incident occurred on June 19, 2022, when a fighter jet crashed in one of the training areas and its pilot also survived. A military aircraft crashed and its pilot was killed during a training flight in January 2020.
