Two dead, seven injured in Gharbiya car crash

Two people died and seven others were injured after12 cars collided with each other at a highway near Sanadeed village in Gharbiya.

Investigations by the Gharbiya Security Department revealed that a trailer truck driver lost control of the steering wheel, causing him to hit another car and resulting in several other collisions.

The injured have been taken to hospital.

Over the past few years, traffic accidents have annually been the second-leading cause of death in Egypt. A 2010 government report revealed that 18 Egyptians died daily in 2009 due to traffic accidents. Surging rates are usually attributed to poor road quality, violations of traffic rules and drug abuse among truckers.
