A tractor trailer collided with four cars Tuesday on a ring road that passes over the Monib area in Giza, causing two cars to fall into the Nile.
Police and rescue teams have headed to the accident scene to search for the victims. Citizens enraged about the incident blocked the ring road, leaving traffic completely paralyzed.
Traffic accidents have ranked second in causes of death in Egypt. A 2010 government report said 18 Egyptians died daily in 2009 because of traffic accidents.
The surging rates are usually attributed to poor road quality, traffic violations and drug addiction among truckers.
