Two Brotherhood figures sentenced to life over Qalyub incidents

Shubra al-Kheima Criminal Court sentenced on Thursday Muslim Brotherhood figures Abdullah Hassan Barakat, dean of Azhar University Faculty of Daawa, and Hossam Marghany to life over charges of inciting violence and blocking the highway in Qalyub city in July 2013, after the ouster of toppled President Mohamed Morsy.
 
Court also fined each of them LE20,000.
 
Both defendants as well as eight others were sentenced to life in absentia before being arrested. The retrial took place folowing the arrests.
 
The court earlier sentenced 37 suspects including Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, figures Mohamed al-Beltagy and Safwat Hegazy to life on 5 July, when the life sentence was issued against the 10 other defendants.
 
Prosecution accused the suspects of inciting violence, blocking Cairo-Alexandria agricultural road, possessing weapons and involvement in killing two persons.
