Turkish TikTok star Kubra Aykut committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of her home, leaving behind a hand-written note announcing the reasons for her shocking decision to her millions of followers.
Security at the scene reported the incident, and several police officers, crime scene investigation teams, and medical teams were dispatched, according to the Turkish news website ekmekvegul.
Local media reported on Tuesday that 26-year-old Aykut left a note in her apartment in Istanbul’s Sultanbeyli district, revealing the reason for her suicide.
“I jumped of my own free will, because I don’t want to live anymore. I was very good to everyone in my life, but I couldn’t feel better,” the note read.
Aykut added: “Living as a good person didn’t gain me anything. Be selfish in this life, and you will be happy. I have been dying for days, and no one saw me. I will go because I love myself very much and think about myself.”
She is famous for having launched her own wedding without a partner in 2023, which led to her viral success on TikTok.
“No one deserves me.. I can’t find a suitable groom for myself,” she said at the time.
Six hours before her death
The posts published by Aykut just six hours before her death caught attention, as she appeared on Instagram stories cleaning and arranging her house, just before throwing herself out of the window late Monday night.
Aykut had expressed her sadness over her weight loss, noting that she was unable to eat at all.
She said: “I’ve gathered my energy, but I can’t seem to gain weight. Today I saw that I dropped to 44 kilograms. I lose a kilogram every day. I don’t know what to do; I urgently need to gain weight.”
Local reports said that Aykut had a history of “deliberate self-inflicted injuries,” though it was unclear whether they amounted to suicide attempts.
She was in a relationship with a lawyer named Anas, who was representing another well-known social media star in Turkey, Dilan Polat, who faces money laundering charges.
According to a report by the Turkish website Ekoltv, her close friends, influencers Dilan and Engin Polat also went to the hospital after the news.
