Turki al-Sheikh warns Al-Ahly Sporting Club: return donations or face lawsuit

Head of the Saudi Entertainment Authority Turki Al-Sheikh sent an official notice to President of Egypt’s Al-Ahly Sporting Club, Mahmoud al-Khateeb, demanding that he return gifts and donations Al-Sheikh made to the club and threatening legal action if his demand remains unmet.

Al-Sheikh said that he would be satisfied if these gifts and financial donations were sent to the “Tahya Misr” Fund (Long Live Egypt) instead of being returned to him personally.

Al-Ahly’s board of directors made a decision earlier to return all donations and gifts provided by Al-Sheikh during his honorary presidency of the club.

The club has called, however, for a financial committee from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to review all of Al-Sheikh’s donations before returning them.

The official legal notice sent by Al-Sheikh stated that he has supported Al-Ahly with over LE228 million during the period of his honorary presidency, from December 2017 to June 2020.

Al-Ahly on June 2 decided to remove Al-Sheikh from the position.

Former legal advisor to Al-Ahly Club Mohamed Othman on Sunday said that the amount of donations made by Al-Sheikh totals LE1.3 million.
