Advisor Turki Al-Sheikh, the head of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, announced on Tuesday that the production of one of the films being supported by the Big Time fund will be reconsidered.
In a statement on Facebook he explained that: “The Big Time film fund was established in order to support and enhance content and filmmaking in the Arab world.”
“Given the misunderstanding that accompanied the announcement of a film in the recent period; we would like to confirm that we have decided to reconsider the production of one of the films that were announced, or to work on developing the scenario, dialogue, and story of the film in question,” he said.
“This decision comes to cut off the path of anyone who tries or is trying fish in troubled waters in bad faith. We are doing so out of commitment to strengthening the good fraternal relations that bring together the peoples of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt.”
The statement comes in the wake of outrage that accompanied the announcement of the film “Nono,” starring Ahmed Helmy, which is supported by “Big Time,” which revolves around an Egyptian scammer targeting pilgrims during Hajj and Umrah.
