Turkey to supply Egypt with large amount of gas

Egypt is preparing to receive the Turkish gasification ship “Botas” in June, to provide the market with supplies of up to 500 million cubic feet of gas per day.

The agreement between Egypt and Turkey stipulates that the Turkish ship will receive shipments of liquefied gas and convert them into natural gas from June to November, for about US$45 million in order to meet Egypt’s gas needs.

The ship is scheduled to return to work in Turkey during the winter.

Egypt has recently chartered ships to receive shipments of liquefied natural gas, regasify it and pump it into the national gas grid, thereby providing the fuel needed for power plants during the coming summer months.

Egypt intends to continue importing liquefied gas from abroad until 2029-2030 to meet the country’s needs, especially in light of the natural decline in local field production, which has led to a decrease in production to 4.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day – daily needs amount to about six billion cubic feet, which further increase during the summer.

With the noticeable decline in Egypt’s natural gas production, the country returned to importing liquefied gas after stopping it since 2018, supported by new gas discoveries at that time such as the Zohr field.
