The National Authority for Tunnels under the Transportation Ministry said that the authority will not grant the Housing Ministry permission to create a monorail train line, planned to link 6th October City to Cairo at a cost of US$1.5 billion.
The authority is the only body in Egypt according to the law that oversees and creates tunnels and electric trains of all kinds, sources at the National Authority for Tunnels told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The sources said they do not know anything about the contract signed by the Housing Ministry to create an air train at $405 billion, describing the project as a "luxury." Instead the money of the project should be directed to improve metro lines and to solve the severe traffic problem in Greater Cairo, they added.
The air train would be implemented in three stages in 6 October City, said the sources.
