US President Donald Trump stated that “we may impose tariffs on trade with BRICS countries of at least 100 percent.”
On Thursday, President Trump announced that US military spending, which reached $886 billion last year, “could be cut in half,” expressing his desire for Russia to return to the G7, which was previously known as the G8, before Moscow was removed following the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
Trump described Russia’s expulsion from the G7 as a “mistake,” while praising Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom he had a phone call 24 hours earlier, saying he “trusts him” regarding the desire to end the war in Ukraine, adding, “I believe he wants peace.”
The US president confirmed his intention to hold a conference with Russia and China regarding “defense spending,” considering that “there is no need to build new nuclear weapons.”
Trump also spoke about Taiwan, telling reporters in the Oval Office: “Taiwan has taken our business in the semiconductor field, and we want to take that business back,” adding that he is not concerned about “countries shifting their business to China,” a country that he says Taiwan is “an integral part” of its territory and “will reclaim it one day, even by force.”
