A court in Tripoli has sentenced 17 Egyptian fishermen from Borg Meghaizel village to eight months in prison and confiscated their boat, according to Kfar al-Sheikh fishermen captain Ahmed Abdo Nassar.
The fishermen were arrested in July 2015 in Libyan territorial waters while fishing without a permit and were taken to Tripoli's military port.
Nassar has called on Egyptian authorities to request that the fishermen be pardoned so that they can return to Egypt.
