The Nasr City Misdemeanor Court adjourned the trial of seven individuals accused of assaulting the Nasr City police station and a nearby hospital until 12 September.
Prosecutors referred the suspects to trial on 17 August after investigations suggested that they had thrown stones and empty bottles at the police station’s entrance before vandalizing the hospital. The suspects are accused of rioting, assaulting public servants and damaging public and private property.
Authorities say the episode began on 14 August when one suspect had a verbal altercation with a police assistant inside the station, which escalated into a physical assault that left the assistant bruised and injured. When the aggressor was detained, the suspect’s relatives headed to the hospital where the assistant was being treated and vandalized the entrance hall.
