Trial resumes for Sinai land sale scandal

Amid intense security, the Criminal Court of Ismailia resumed yesterday morning the trial of suspects alleged to have sold lands in Sinai to Israelis.

Colonel Ayman el-Shafei, the prosecution witness, said the suspects deceitfully obtained clearances for the construction of a number of housing units near Coral Bay resort, Sharm el-Sheikh under the name of a company, though official investigations later proved they were in fact agents for foreign investors.

El-Shafei stressed that through his own investigations–which he says relied on undisclosed official and secret sources–he found out that the primary suspect, Maher Fakher Iskandar, was previously accused of falsifying official documents.
