Trial postponed for Israeli-Arab and Ukrainian weapon smugglers

South Sinai Criminal Court on Sunday postponed the trial of two Israeli-Arabs and a Ukrainian national charged with smuggling weapons and live ammunition from Israel into Egypt via the Taba border crossing.

The court is to issue its verdict on 13 March.

In October, Egyptian security services arrested Maaz Zhalki, a 32-year-old Israeli-Arab, who crossed the border with a wooden box containing a weapon and live bullets. He confessed that the second defendant, a fugitive Israeli-Arab named Mamoun Abdel Fattah, asked him to deliver the box to the Ukrainian, Edward Chicos, who works in Sharm el-Sheikh. Zhalki claimed that he did not know what was in the box.
