Trial of officers charged with killing Qalyubia protesters postponed to December

Shubra Criminal Court on Saturday postponed to 3 December the trial of policemen accused of killing protesters in Qalyubia Governorate.

Former Qalyubia security chief, deputy security chief for south Qalyubia, assistant security director for Shubra al-Kheima, and the assistant security director are implicated in this case.

The court has summoned Qalyubia's Assistant Security Chief Meligui Fattouh and former Investigations Director Mahmoud Youssry and former head of Qalyubia investigations office Ashraf Abdel Qader to testify in court.

The plaintiffs’ lawyers have asked for compensation ranging from L5000 to 200,000 and for summoning Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy to present testimony – or a recording thereof – in the trial of ex-president Hosni Mubarak.

The court, meanwhile, refused to summon Essawy, saying he was not connected to the case. It also declined the request for a recording of his testimony, citing the gag order.

The suspects face charges of killing 20 protesters and injuring 40 others on 28 January, a day known as the Friday of Anger.
