Trial of ex-interior minister adjourned to 21 May

The Cairo Criminal Court on Tuesday adjourned the trial of former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and six of his senior assistants.

Adly and his assistants face charges of involvement in the killing of protesters during the 25 January revolution. The new date for their trial is 21 May.

Judicial sources said the case was put off to allow the defense team time to review relevant case documents. They also said the trial will be resumed in a bigger court room.

A governmental fact-finding committee report on incidents related to the 25 January revolution revealed that Adly gave orders to shoot at protesters.

According to official statistics, about 846 people were killed and another 6400 injured from 25 January to 11 February, when former President Hosni Mubarak stepped down.

Adly, who remained in his position for 14 years, also faces prosecution in corruption cases related to profiteering and money laundering.
