Cairo’s Court of Appeal, headed by judge Abel Aziz Omar, announced that the trial of Tarek Abdel Razek Hussein will be held on Saturday. Abdel Razek, a 37-year-old businessman, stands accused of spying for the Israeli intelligence service Mossad.
He has been notified by the court that he will face trial Saturday, with two fugitive Mossad agents, Eddie Moshe and Joseph Demor, before the Cairo Supreme State Security Courtof Emergency.
In the indictment, State Security Prosecution accused the three defendants of spying for a foreign state from May 2008 until the beginning of August 2010, with the purpose of harming Egyptian national interests.
While abroad traveling abroad defendant Abdel Razek agreed to work for Israelis for the benefit of Israeli intelligence, and provide them with reports and information on officials working in the communications sector. The goal was to select potential candidates for recruitment by Israel.
The prosecution also accused Abdel Razek of carrying out a hostile action against two foreign countries, Syria and Lebanon, at the risk of Egypt rupturing political ties with those countries. The purported hostile action consisted of communicating information to a Syrian Mossad agent and agreeing to provide Israel with information on Syrians and Lebanese in order to recruit them for the Mossad.
The defendant confessed during interrogations of spying for the Mossad. It started when he sent Israelis an internet message explaining that he was an Egyptian resident in China and willing to work for them.
He confessed the details of his encounters with Mossad agents in India, China, Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal and Macau. He also admitted receiving orders to single out and attract Syrians, Lebanese and Egyptians to cooperate with the Mossad.
The defendant said that he carried out an order from the Mossad to travel to Syria. There, he met a Syrian Mossad agent and forwarded information to the two fugitive defendants through the internet.
