Housing Minister Mustafa Madbouly announced on Monday they will begin the trial of the first solar power station in Sadat City with a capacity of 65 KW at a cost of LE1.5 million, as part of the government’s policy to balance increasing energy consumption with clean, renewable energy solutions.
Kamal Fahmy, vice president of the New Urban Communities, said the station, which was built by the national service projects department of the armed forces, has 264 cells, each with a capacity of 250 watts.
The armed forces are also replacing 27,500 lampposts in 11 cities with LED bulbs in order to save energy.
Other solar power stations to illuminate the Tiba-Qena desert road, the Tiba city and the Borg al-Arab city, were also started on a trial basis.
