The cabinet’s legislative committee completed amendments on Tuesday to the draft law on treachery.
“We changed its name to the Law on Corrupting Political Life,” said Local Development Minister Mohamed Atteya.
The law prohibits those who have corrupted political life from running in parliamentary or local council elections for five years.
The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces had returned the draft law to the government to amend.
“We now await the council’s endorsement,” said Atteya.
The minister also said the committee would discuss the unified draft law on places of worship in two weeks time. Judicial sources have said that the draft has also been amended.
