Transport Ministry makes Eid al-Fitr preparations

The Ministry of Transport announced a high state of alert during the Eid al-Fitr holiday and the return of Egyptian pilgrims, with Transport Minister Rashad al-Matiny asking the heads of the railway service, the metro and the Red Sea ports to submit daily operation reports to him.

Railway Authority chairman Hani Hegab said directors are instructed to be present on the platforms to resolve any problems facing passengers. "With the exception of last Wednesday, when train movement was interrupted in the Delta, operation is going smooth,” he said.

Subway manager Ali Hussein said the subway would conduct 1,288 trips over 21 hours during holiday. “The last train will leave at 12:30 am,” he said. “Maintenance teams are ready to fix any malfunction."

Red Sea ports manager Abdel Qader Gaballah said 40,000 pilgrims started to return last Thursday and are expected to continue arriving until Wednesday.
