Transport Minister Galal Saeed met on Friday with the chairman of the Railway Authority and his deputies to revise safety measures related to railway operations.
The meeting was held against the backdrop of a recent train derailment which killed dozens of passengers at Ayyat, in Giza.
"We must review all the precautions and safety measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents… and to put strict controls to maintain the security and safety of the rail system," Saeed said during the meeting.
The minister reviewed the railway signaling systems, especially in the area where the Ayyat accident occurred.
He pointed out that the railway authority must work around the clock to develop the railway system through a reform program, and to carry out the maintenance of trains on a regular basis.
The minister stressed during the meeting that he would not tolerate any neglect on the part of railway officials.
