Tourism rates improved in Sharm el-Sheikh: governor

Major General Khaled Fouda, governor of South Sinai, has claimed that tourism in Sharm el-Sheikh is starting to pick up after a host of European countries lifted travel bans to Egypt.

Fouda said he expected tourism in Sharm el-Sheikh to return to normal before the beginning of November.

"Frost will fill Europe this year and there is no place to enjoy the sun like Sharm el-Sheikh," Fouda told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

"Where else would [tourists] go?" he added, pointing out that the area enjoys stability and security.

Only 24 percent of Sharm el-Sheikh's land is currently being used, Fouda said.
