The head of the Egyptian Museum has said he expects less visitors this summer at the museum, located in downtown Cairo.
State-run news agency MENA quoted Tarek al-Awady on Monday as saying that a tourism recession this summer is predictable, as summer is not Egypt's high tourism season anyway.
He said the tourist season begins in October and reaches its peak in December and January, particularly during Christmas and New Year, at destinations such as Aswan, Luxor, Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada and Cairo.
He said the dip will last from June until the end of September.
Last week, Egypt's tourist minister said his ministry will make up for the tourism recession by encouraging internal tourism among Egyptians.
He said that the ministry is seeking diversity within the market, instead of depending on paricular countries. Currently, Russian tourists represent 20 percent of Egypt's tourists.
