Unstable weather, thunderstorms expected across Egypt on Monday

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) issued a weather alert for Cairo and various other governorates, as the nation experiences unstable weather on Monday.

Temperatures will be cool in the north and warmer in the south during the day, becoming cold to very cold across most of the country at night.

There will be a chance of moderate to heavy thundery rain – sometimes accompanied by hail – in parts of the northern coast and the Nile Delta region.

Thunderstorms may be accompanied (with a 30 percent probability) by sudden strong winds, lightning, and hail in some areas.

Winds will be active across the country, potentially stirring up sand and dust in parts of southern Egypt, the Red Sea Governorate, and the Western Desert. These winds may also reduce horizontal visibility in some areas.

The EMA stressed the importance of staying updated and taking necessary precautions to remain safe.

The Mediterranean Sea will be moderate to rough, with wave heights ranging from two to 2.5 meters, and northwestern winds. The Red Sea will also be moderate to rough, with wave heights ranging from 2.5 to three meters, and northwestern winds.

Expected temperatures for Monday:

  • Matrouh: 16C
  • Alexandria: 18C
  • Cairo: 19C
  • Luxor: 23C
  • Hurghada, Aswan and Sharm El-Sheikh 24C
