A group of people with bladed weapons on Friday attacked a cafe near the stockmarket in downtown Cairo.
The assailants clashed with people at the cafe, before police arrived and fired shots in the air, and the attackers escaped.
Some cafe goers blamed the police for failing to arrest the attackers, and said insufficient numbers of policemen were sent to their rescue.
Meanwhile, the police said it was hard to tell attackers and victims apart when they arrived on the scene.
Several young activists frequent the cafes in this area, which is located close to Tahrir Square.
On Wednesday, clashes erupted when joint police and military police forces raided several cafes there. However, the raid failed due to protests by young activists.
