TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Several thousand Israelis have gathered in the Tel Aviv to demand that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu resign following corruption charges.
The protesters Saturday waved Israeli flags and carried banners describing Netanyahu as “corrupt.”
Netanyahu was indicted in a series of corruption cases last week, throwing Israel’s paralyzed political system into further disarray and threatening his 10-year grip on power. He denies any wrongdoing and has rejected resignation calls, accusing prosecutors of staging “an attempted coup.”
Protester Yael Ruth said “we cannot have a clean democracy when there is a prime minister with criminal behavior”
Netanyahu isn’t required to resign unless he is convicted.
