While Ramadan may have come to an end, we reflect on its many blessings – religious, social, familial and, undoubtedly, the memories of those captivating dramas that unfolded throughout the holy month.
The past year has seen a resurgence in the 15-episode format for Arabic dramas, a style employed for many years.
Last Ramadan’s experiments with a variety of topics in a shorter format proved successful, resonating well with viewers due to the variety of topics presented as well as the participation of a diverse cast.
Following the success of the last year’s well-received concept, drama producers revisited the 15-episode series for the 2024 Ramadan season.
Therefore, a big thank you is in order to the drama makers for their dedication in creating content that captivated viewers throughout Ramadan.
This Ramadan, we celebrate the diversity of Arab dramas!
A special thank you to all the creators who delivered shows in both 30 and 15 episode formats.
Our sincere appreciation extends to all Ramadan dramas that addressed social issues through a thoughtful dramatic lens, one that respects the sanctity of the holy month.
I express my gratitude to all those who brought to light numerous issues of concern to our society, addressed through skillful structures based on opposing forces that drive the conflict and eventually shape the dramatic event.
This technique helps express either the rectification or the gravity of these issues on society and its individuals.
Therefore, our heartfelt thanks goes out to all the creators of Ramadan dramas.
Author’s biography
Nermine al-Houti is an associate professor of the Department of Criticism at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Kuwait.
She holds a PhD in Philosophy of Literary Criticism and is a graduate of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts.
Houti is a member of the Association of Writers and the Journalists Association, and is also part of the literary arbitration committees on theater or poetry in Kuwait and other Arab countries.
She has authored numerous newspapers and magazines articles and several books on significant theatrical works examining women’s issues, the latest of which is “The Women in Ismail Abdullah’s Theater”.
She has been chosen as a panelist in various significant cultural events and has participated in multiple seminars across the Arab region.
