Terrorist killed in Sinai: Interior Ministry

The Ministry of the Interior announced the death of Hemdan Suleiman Salem, a leader with Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis terrorist group, in a shootout with police troops in Arish city, North Sinai.

In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said security services were informed that Salem was involved in several terrorist crimes against police and armed forces.

He planted bombs on sideroads to target troop vehicles in Arish. He also took part in the attack against a checkpoint in front of the public hospital on January 11, which left first lieutenant Mohamed Abdel Fattah dead.

The troops were informed that Salem was going to his house. After taking permission from Prosecution, the troops stormed his place.

Salem started shooting in an attempt to run away and the ensuing exchange of fire caused his death. A machine gun and bullets were found in his possession.
