A coalition of NGOs monitoring the upcoming parliamentary elections in October has detected an increase in violent incidents, coinciding with preparations for the polls.
According to the International-Local Mission to Observe the Parliamentary Elections, 65 attempts to commit terrorist acts took place between September 4 and 10, a 35 percent increase from the preceding week.
The mission's report highlighted what it described as “a significant increase in targeting citizens and civil and service facilities at a rate of 22 incidents, representing about 34 percent of the total crimes monitored.”
The number of provinces that have witnessed attempts to commit terrorist crimes have increased slightly to nine.
