Telecom Egypt said certain communication services, such as voice and data transfers, were partially cut off in different areas as a result of a fire in a manhole that damaged the cables.
An official source at the company said the Managing Director, the Chief Executive Officer and a team of technicians repaired the damage and the service was resumed in some places.
EgyptAir had told the Middle East News Agency on Tuesday that flights between Cairo and Alexandria were delayed two hours due to the problem but were later resumed normally.
Sources at Cairo International Airport said the arrival and departure procedures for passengers were completed manually until the service came back.
