Taylor Swift named ‘Person of the Year’ from Time magazine

World famous pop star Taylor Swift has been named ‘Person of the Year’ by TIME magazine.

2023 continues to be Swift’s golden year, after she launched a world tour that broke records, and she also became the most listened to music artist in the world.

The magazine said: “Although Swift’s popularity has increased over the decades, this is the year in which Taylor Swift, 33, achieved a kind of nuclear fusion: the launch of art and commerce together to release energy of historical power.”

In announcing the title, the magazine said that Swift received the award in a year that saw her reach the peak of her fame and influence over two decades.

Swift’s Golden Year

Swift spent this year traveling the world on her “Eras Tour”, showcasing music from her entire career, breaking records for ticket sales, and boosting the economies of every city she visited.

The global tour is scheduled to continue in 2024 across Asia, Australia, Europe and the US, on its way to becoming the highest-grossing tour in history.

Swift said that she feels more proud and happy than ever before for sharing a title that has been given to almost every American president since its inception in 1927.

The star also released a movie bearing the same name as her tour, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” (2023) which shattered all expectations, as it achieved revenues of about US$900 million.

The pop super-star has even inspired new interest in NFL games by attending the Kansas City Chiefs games to support her new boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

Swift was also ranked as the fifth most powerful woman in the world by Forbes magazine, behind major political power brokers such as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

And Swift was the most streamed artist in the world in 2023, according to Spotify, with her music streamed more than 26.1 billion times from January 1 to November 29.
