A taxi driver died in the hospital while being treating for injuries caused by Muslim Brotherhood protestors who reportedly physically assaulted him while he drove past their demonstration on Monday in the Mansoura city of Daqahliya.
The official Interior Ministry report said on Monday that about 200 pro-Muslim Brotherhood protestors marched on Gish street in Mansoura Monday evening, blocking cars from the road.
When the taxi driver Mohamed Kamal Badr Eddin, 34 years old, drove by the march, protestors allegedly verbally assaulted him and threw Molotov cocktails at his taxi. When he tried to escape the burning car, they chased him and attacked him with bladed weapons, leading to his injuries and subsequent death, according to the police statement.
Security forces dispersed the march and arrested 10 protestors. Investigations of the incident are ongoing.
The newspaper Al-Tahrir reported that protesters had accused the slain driver of running his car into the march and hitting some women.
