Tamarod: We ask President Mansour to conduct presidential elections first

Mai Wahba, spokesperson for the Tamarod movement, said that the group met with Interim President Adly Mansour on Thursday for six hours to discuss the elections system and the possibility of holding the presidential elections before the parliamentary.

Wahba said Mahmoud Badr and Hassan Shahin, members of the Tamarod political unit, were the group’s representatives.

She added that the president cast a vote during the meeting in which 37 people voted for holding the presidential elections first, 14 voted for parliamentary elections first, and six voted for holding both simultaneously.

She noted that 22 people voted for the individual system for the parliamentary elections, 15 voted for the list-based system and 20 voted for a mix of both.

“The security situation and Egypt's global image without an elected president demand that we hold presidential elections first,” she said. “Also, political parties are still too weak to run in lists.”
