South Cairo Criminal Court postponed the trial of three out of 12 defendants accused in five cases related to sexual assault of a women in Tahrir Square during the celebration of the inauguration of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The trial was postponed to 6 July after the defense requested a forensic doctor who examined the victim to attend the session.
Lawyer Soufi Rabie claimed that prosecutors fabricated the case because there were 50 others who assaulted the victim and whom prosecutors failed to arrest. He also requested the testimony of more eyewitnesses.
The defendants face charges of of kidnapping, physical torture, rape and attempted murder, which are crimes punishable by up to life in prison.
