Tahrir sexual assault trial resumes Sunday

On Sunday, South Cairo Criminal Court is set to resume the trial of three defendants accused of sexually assaulting women in Tahrir Square on President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi inauguration day.

During the last session, the defense requested postponing the hearing in order to summon the forensic doctor who examined the assaulted women.
One of the victims, who attended the hearing, suffered from a nervous breakdown after she saw the defendants in dock.

The defendants' lawyer said that the prosecution fabricated charges against his clients as a cover up for police, who allegedly arrested the wrong people.

"Eyewitnesses said over 50 people assaulted the victim called Magda," the lawyer added.

In a press statement, the lawyer said that the court took quick decisions without heeding the defense's requests, which shows that police did not arrest the real perpetrators.
