Sports Minister Taher Abu Zeid decided to delay his resignation “for the time being” until the Legal Affairs at the Council of Ministers considers his decision to dissolve the Ahly club board that was headed by Hassan Hamdy.
A source at the Sports Ministry, who requested anonymity, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Abu Zeid was seen in his office on Sunday morning and noted that the minister is persisting with his decision against Ahly board members.
Abu Zeid had previously decided to dissolve the club’s board and referred its members to the public funds prosecution for investigations into financial violations. He also appointed a new board, headed by Adel Hikal.
Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy, however, decided to put a hold on Abu Zeid’s decision on Saturday to appoint a new board for the Ahly Club until the legal situation is further investigated in light of the newly approved constitution.
