A Swedish Coptic organization has expressed disappointment over what Copts in Egypt are exposed to describing it of “oppression by extremist Islamists.”
In a statement on Monday, the organization condemned the forcible displacement of five Coptic families, expelling them of their village and burning their house, accusing Salafis of the village of being behind this as they claimed contempt of Islam by a Coptic person who posted news about the Islamic State on his Facebook page.
The organization stressed that such crime violates human rights and international charters, adding that the displacement took place in coordination with Egyptian security services, reluctance by government and unreasoned silence by the church.
The statement urged the government to return the displaced families back and making up for damages they suffer. It also stressed canceling the law on contempt of religions, saying it targets intimidation of Copts and preventing Egyptian intellectuals from expressing their viewpoints.
The statement also threatened that the Coptic diaspora organizations will no more support the regime in Egypt, in case the government does not achieve such legitimate demands.
