Supreme Council of Antiquities: 19 percent increase in museum visitors

The Supreme Council of Antiquities said that the number of visits to museum and archeological websites between July 2024 and March 2025 has increased by 19 percent, compared to the same period in the previous year, said Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy on Tuesday.
The announcement was made during the board meeting of the council that took place at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, under the tourism minister.
The meeting reviewed mechanisms of enhancing services provided to Egyptian visitors and tourists in 15 archeological sites nationwide to improve tourism and cultural experience there.
During the meeting, the minister directed officials to study each site individually to identify its needs and immediately work on providing appropriate tourism services.
The development of services includes providing informational and interpretative signs and maps, upgrading visitor centers and restrooms, installing umbrellas and seating for visitor comfort, and placing recycling-designed waste bins.
Additionally, brochures and leaflets about these sites will be available in both Arabic and English.
Members of the antiquities council approved a number of key decisions, including allowing Egyptian museum visitors of all age groups to enter open archaeological museums nationwide for free on May 18th, in tandem with the International Museum Day.
