Summer in the City is a bimonthly party held at the Fairmont’s rooftop Sky Pool. It launched on June 8 and is organized by Event Republic.
Event Republic is the brainchild of Waseem el-Tanahi, founder of the Cairo360 online guide, and Sebastian Moros. It is known for its fun gigs and cool crowd; it caters to fun loving music fanatics. It has been responsible for massive successes on the Cairo social calendar including the Annual School Disco: Student Aid (2009, 2010), Party in My Shorts (2010), and Hey La Hop (2011).
"The success of these parties lies in the event planner's ability to bring together a group of fun-loving individuals," says Rana, a huge Summer in the City advocate. "The crowd is laid-back and wants to party. People at Summer in the City don't go there to 'be seen'."
The rooftop of the Fairmont Hotel in downtown offers a spacious area for the people to hangout, dance and have a great time. The view from the Sky Pool is breath taking and the music of DJ Amr Hosny is an addition to the atmosphere.
The crowd is a mishmash of young party lovers and an older crowd that appreciates good music and a fine drink. The pool bar is comfortable and the dance floor big enough for everyone. The service is good and the waiter who starts the night with you, will continue to thoroughly service your table until the end. However, make sure to get your receipt when you pay your corkage early on in the night.
DJ Amr Hosny has also played at Party in My Shorts, School Disco and countless Cairo venues, including Cairo Jazz Club and the Kempinski Jazz Bar.
Summer in the City is an alternative night out from the standard nightclubs in Cairo. The last two events will be 6 July and 20 July with the end of the summer season and the beginning of Ramadan.
