Sheikh Mohamed el-Shahawy, president of the London-based International Sufi Council, criticized Egypt’s state security apparatus Tuesday for delaying a longstanding request to transfer the council’s headquarters to Cairo.
"Sufi orders have always respected Egyptian law and have worked amicably with the authorities. So what are they afraid of?" El-Shahawy asked in a statement, going on to stress the council’s condemnation of Al-Qaeda and "extremist" groups.
