Suez residents organized a protest outside the Suez courthouse complex on Sunday, where they criticized the slow proceedings of trials of those accused of killing protesters during the 25 January revolution.
Military police surrounded the complex and the security directorate with a security cordon in preparation for a potential escalation.
The protesters said they would continue to demonstrate until all of the revolution’s demands were realized, and that they would refuse any negotiations or compensations, accepting nothing less than retribution.
In a statement, the protesters said they were organizing a show trial for the killers of protesters and corrupt members of the Mubarak regime that will take place in Arbaeen Square on 23 July, to coincide with the start date of the 1952 revolution. They said that the trial would be attended by judges Mahmoud al-Khodairy and Zakaria Abdel Aziz.
In Alexandria, protests continued for the tenth consecutive day, as some protesters from Tahrir Square in Cairo joined their Alexandria counterparts in Saad Zaghloul Square. The Tahrir Square protesters included representatives from a number of political coalitions.
Lotus Revolution Coalition representative Ahmed Bahgat addressed the protesters, saying, “It is a great honor to be here in Alexandria, from which came the first martyr, Khaled Saeed, with the protesters.”
He went on to say, “Your sit-in here gives us in protesters in Cairo the motivation to continue our sit-in, as you, together with those in Suez, lend us emotional support.”
“If you disperse, we cannot continue, as we draw our strength from you,” said Bahgat.
