The Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie announced on Thursday that navigation statistics for the canal in November showed unprecedented records in the number of ships passing, net tonnages, and revenues achieved.
This year is now the the highest compared to previous Novembers throughout the history of the Suez Canal.
The head of the Suez Canal Authority announced that navigation traffic in the canal for November saw the crossing of 2,264 ships in both directions, compared to the crossing of 2,171 ships last year – a difference of 93 ships, with an increase of 4.3 percent.
The total net tonnage reached 135.5 million tons compared to 125.2 million tons during last November, a difference of 10.3 million tons and an increase of 8.2 percent.
Suez Canal revenues in November achieved a significant increase of 20.3 percent, recording US$854.7 million compared to US$710.3 million last year – a difference of $144.4 million.
Rabie noted the unprecedented indicators recorded by the canal’s navigation statistics, which are a direct result of the success of development projects and navigational services.
He also credited the support of the political leadership in raising the canal’s classification and increasing its numerical capacity.
Marketing policies succeeded in attracting ships crossing for the first time, the number of which reached 387 ships with a total value of $71.8 million during November.
