Global media outlets have reported that the Sudanese army is crossing from Omdurman into Khartoum and Khartoum North, suggesting ongoing clashes with the Rapid Support Forces.
According to these reports, the Sudanese army has also taken control of the entrances to three bridges connecting Khartoum, Omdurman, and Khartoum North.
The Sudanese Tribune website reported that the Sudanese army launched a military operation early Thursday morning targeting several areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces in central, western, and southern Khartoum.
The website stated that clashes erupted at around two am in the vicinity of the strategic location near the Al-Maqran area west of Khartoum.
Plumes of smoke were seen rising from the vicinity of the Armored Corps south of Khartoum.
Sudanese Air Force jets have been flying intensively over the skies of Omdurman, coinciding with reports of airstrikes targeting the strategic headquarters in Al-Maqran, Khartoum seized by the Rapid Support Forces from the army in June 2023.
According to Sudan Tribune, the sounds of fighting and plumes of smoke have been heard in central Khartoum – specifically in the Arab Market and the headquarters of the army’s general command, as well as the army’s signal corps.
This is in addition to reports of clashes and gunfire exchange between the army from northern Omdurman and the Rapid Support Forces from northern Khartoum North.
The army has been shelling Rapid Support Forces positions in Khartoum North with heavy artillery, and smoke has risen from Al-Azariqab and Al-Halfaia in northern Khartoum North coinciding with the army’s artillery shelling.
