Students allegedly belonging to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood held demonstrations on Wednesday in front of Cairo University’s main gate and blocked al-Nahda Street that leads to Giza Square.
The students engaged in verbal altercations with passersby and the staff of the University Supreme Council, who sprayed water on them when they tried to spray graffiti on the walls of the building. They also attempted to burn a car belonging to a satellite channel but did not succeed.
The group then entered the university and began to march around campus.
Meanwhile, security forces stormed Mansoura University in three formations after clashes broke out between Brotherhood students and the campus guard. The students set fire to three motorcycles belonging to security personnel. They were protesting against arresting their colleagues and sentencing them to prison.
Twelve students were arrested during the protests, according to security sources at Daqahlia.
Security had first thrown tear gas canisters from outside to disperse the protesters, but then had to storm the campus when the clashes broke put.
