Students burn three vehicles at Al-Azhar University, block road at Ain Shams University

Police fired teargas canisters to disperse hundreds of students of Al-Azhar University who besieged the university’s administrative building on Monday, which was preventing University President Osama al-Abd from exiting the building.

The students, who authorities say were Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers, set ablaze three vehicles in the university parking, located near the administrative building. They also smashed glass of other vehicles in protest against killing of two students on Sunday. They also set garbage on fire near the parking and the Faculty of Commerce.

Administrative security personnel closed the gates of building, which was surrounded by students from all sides.

Meanwhile, dozens of Muslim Brotherhood students from Ain Shams University blocked al-Khalifa al-Maamoun street on Monday, after they staged a march that left from the university main gate in protest against the two students killed at Al-Azhar University.

Verbal altercations broke out between the students and the drivers, as the traffic was immobilized on the street.
