Dozens of secondary school students and their parents on Wednesday blocked the road and paralyzed traffic outside the education department in Hurghada to protest a difficult calculus exam.
Students told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the exam had been designed for above-average students and that they did not have enough time to finish.
One student said they had hoped to make up for earlier mistakes on exams, but the questions were beyond what was expected and “very tricky.”
Students’ parents criticized the Education Ministry’s stance in light of the irregularity of the last school year due to unrest. They chanted slogans against the ministry and filed a complaint at its Hurghada office.
Ahmed Hammouda, the director of the Red Sea’s education department, said he met with parents to review their complaints, and said the exam questions that stirred the complaints were submitted to the ministry for review.
